Meeting with El Mahdi, Data Scientist at DiagRAMS Technologies
20 October 2023Can you tell us about your job?
In a few words, my job as a data scientist involves applying mathematical and statistical methodologies to our customers’ industrial data in order to extract value from it. This enables them to gain a better understanding of the problems they encounter in their processes, but also to improve their production and consumption (energy, raw materials, etc.).
My role is to understand the customer’s needs with the support of the Account Manager, receive the data, process it, analyse it and deploy the results with the developers in our team in our application.
In the background, I carry out R&D assignments where I contribute to the development of internal tools for the company.
Before joining us, was there a project that particularly stood out for you?
During my studies in Bretagne, I had the opportunity to work with a fisheries control association. The aim was to develop a mobile and tablet application to prevent overfishing and find out which fish to catch according to the season. Using data received via sensors, we provided information on the quantity of fish caught and checked that the rules put in place by the city were being respected. For me, this was the most interesting project because it served an environmental cause.
Why did you choose to join DiagRAMS Technologies ?
I wanted to join a structure on a human scale so that I could take part in projects that would come to fruition and see their impact in the short to medium term. It’s rewarding to feel that you’re adding value to a company.
On top of that, the environmental values promoted by DiagRAMS made me want to join the adventure.
What are your favourite challenges in your job?
The main challenge at DiagRAMS is to understand how the machines work. We work in different types of industrial sector, each with its own set of challenges and constraints. It is this understanding of the machines that will enable us to correctly interpret the results we find.
The most interesting thing is to translate the operation of the equipment into mathematical and statistical analyses and, thanks to the data, to provide customers with additional knowledge about their industrial processes to help them better detect, diagnose and anticipate phenomena.
Bonus question: one of your best memories since you arrived?
The team-building moments, in particular the treasure hunt organised in the streets of Lille for the 2nd anniversary of DiagRAMS (even if we didn’t win it) 🧭
